Charity Quilt finish and update ….

My Charity quilt is all done, except being washed and shipped. If you would like to make one, you can request a kit here . They ship you all the material, the pattern instructions, you just have to provide thread, batthing and some love.

We had sunny weekend so I took some pictures off the quilt on the porch. I quilted it on my New Joy Gold Standard frame. I need to get some more pantos, but I can go only about 6,5″ wide. Do you have any suggestions for good, easy to stitch pantos?
I did the binding on the machine. I like to hand stitch the binding, but this quilt quilt be washed a lot. I am happy how it turn out!

Talking about LOVE, I want to share the nice Surprise I got from my hubby for Valentine’s Day.

Isn’t he the BEST husband!
He did great! I was out and when I got home I found the lovely arrangement that was delivered.

What is Valentine’s Day without Chocolate?
I love taking pictures and I couldn’t resist showing some.

He also made chicken pot pie that was very delicious, and he didn’t use any recipe.

… and apple tart for desert. I know I am very lucky!
I hope everybody that is in love had a wonderful holiday!

I hope you made it to the end of my long post. 🙂 Here is the “Be Warm” block appliquéd.

It has been so cold lately and I was hoping it will get warmer if I work on that block! :)) Well it’s raining now, but we still have snow on the ground.

Happy sewing!

Something New, Something Secret and …

I love starting new projects! They bring excitement! I just love my newest project called “Cobblestone Lane” by Sherri Falls. It’s a BOM and I already have 4 blocks. It’s nice because you make 2 at a time. I am showing a regular and on point view, because the blocks will be on point.

I am showing few pictures of the big blizzard storm we had yesterday. We got about 20″ of snow on top of the previous snow. We spend the day indoors and I did some sewing.  Or should I see I stayed inside, my husband decided to go visit his parents and brother last night. I got out and my boots filled with snow and I turned around. He made it there, they leave just across the street but his socks were soaking wet. Today we had to shovel for 2 hours to dig ourself out.

This is the view of the snow at my window at 3p.m. We measured 14″ and it kept snowing.

That is the view from my window through the frosty glass.

You can see another sneak preview of the secret project I am working on.

Happy sewing!

Busy, Productive and Fun!

These are some of the blocks I pieced last weekend. They are part of a surprised project I hope to finish soon.

It was a very busy, productive and fun weekend. We are in a process of moving my frame to a different room. It was lot of work to clear the space and move the furniture around. We cleared the space, now we have to move the frame. I did a lot of cooking as well. Buffalo chicken wings and double baked potatoes were on the menu. Here I blogged about those recipes.

We woke up to this seen on Saturday. My husband did most of the shoveling and I helped a bit too. We got about 8″ of snow, that is much better then what our friends in Philadelphia got, about 27”.

This a view from my sewing room window. I am getting better at taking pictures trough the window. I love sunsets! I guess that was the calm after the storm!
Happy sewing!

On the road… Raffle quilt ….fabrics

I saw this beautiful raffle quilt on a display in Chestertown, Maryland.

I bought two tickets so wish me luck! 🙂
It will benefit Crossroads Community Foundation.

I was on a search for a quilt shop, but the town didn’t have one and then I saw it!

Chestertown had a lot of little shops that was a pleasure to window shop. We enjoed the view of the frozen river.

On the drive home I found a quilt shop called “Quilter’s hive” in DE. They were having a class and had a lot of fabric.

I wasn’t looking for any specific fabric so I got half a yard of this pretty print. I usually get in a lot of trouble at quilt shops, so I did good! 🙂

After I was so good, I realized I need backing for one of my PhD projects, so I ordered online from delta patchwork some fabrics.

I love the packaging and the fabric was very nice, too.

Happy sewing!

"Crooked Pine Camp" and "Coffee Quilt"

I just finished this cute paper pieced project called “Crooked Pine Camp” by MH designs. I am happy with my color choices. I wasn’t sure what kind of border fabric I will pick and the flowers just spoke to me! The cabin reminds me of the camp where we met with my husband. The two color trees makes the project more interesting.

I realized I didn’t show the Christmas present I made for my brother-in-law. He loves coffee and I found the perfect fabric:
“Coffee makes you brilliant. The powers of a mans mind are directly proportioned to the coffee he drinks.” – one of the blocks says.

I hope he enjoys it as I enjoyed making it for him.
P.S. I also made Coffee quilt for my friend Millie as PIF present, but I am gonna post all my 3PIF gifts in one post.
Happy sewing!

Inspiring Quilts

Don’t you love the colors on this quilt? My mother in law made Bonnie’s “Orange crush quilt”. I just love the color combination!

Below is the back of the quilt. Mom used her embroidery machine to quilt a design in the middle of some of the blocks and just love it! My mother in law ones a small quilt shop “Happy Sewing Room” in Hamburg, PA. She also has a blog you can visit HERE. I am very lucky to have a such talented mother in law! She inspires me to quilt! Thank you Mom!
Here is sampler she made for the shop using this Christmas panel:

I just love this fall table runner with rich colors! The pictures don’t do justice to the quilts! I had to take pictures as they were washed and wrinkled very nice.

Here is a little sneak pick of the first quilt from the “Be Attitudes” book.
I debated between those two fabrics for the scarf so I made two blocks. I am gonna make individual quilts and I am gonna make a whole quilt with all the blocks put together.

I need help what color to do the letters. It’s gonna say “be warm“. What color should I use?
Have a great day!

Happy New Year, Old and New Projects

I wish everyone a healthier and happier New 2010 year!
I want to start the new year by showing this Snow men Quilt I pieced last year! :)) I had a lot of fun piecing it and I got a lot of practice measuring borders. Sorry for the blurry picture, I had my camera not on the right setting and I should take a better picture.
I also made a case for my new cell phone Droid that I love! The case is very practical as I can wear it on my wrist while caring stuff to my sewing room. It has a different fabric for lining.
Holidays for me are a lot of baking! I made this Coconut cream pie for Christmas. It was my first time baking a Coconut pie. I used a pie crust that I baked for the shell. It was pretty good, especially the fresh toasted coconuts on top.
Toffee Blondie desert that I called Brunetty, because I used part dark brown sugar instead of light.

And my favorite desert that I made for New Years Eve party was my Mom’s famous Bulgarian Baklava. Everyone that had baklava before and tried mine loved it and so do I! My Mom always said that the hardest part of making the baklava is cutting it. She usually makes it in a circle tray and it’s harder to make the ramb shape pieces. All the quilters can imagine it I am sure.
Here is my baked and surop baklava. I wish I could share it with you.
“Be Attitudes” is one of the New Year Projects I am gonna start this year. My mother-in-law got it for me and I just love it! I already started on the first block “Be warm”. Baby it’s cold outside…

I would like to join my blogging friend Myra in her PhD challenge. It is only 6 months and you get your PhD, sounds good?
Well, PhD means Projects Half Done. :))
Here is my list of PhD I would like to finish until June 30th 2010:
*Blue and Yellow Quilt
*The Coffee Quilt
*Foolish Goose Tracks
*My Sister’s Wedding Quilt
*Charity Quilt
*Surprise Table Runners
The list may look short to you but it’s a lot of work. Wish me luck and if you would like to join click here.
Have a Happy New Year!!!

Have a Very Merry Christmas and Ornament Tutorial

On my last post I shared the Christmas Star ornament I made as present for my hubby a few years ago. I made a snowmen ornament this year and I decided to share how I made it.

I embroidered a snow globe ornament on my embroidery machine. Then to make it double faced I picked a fabric for backing. You need a just small piece so it’s great to use your scraps.
I put the two fabrics face together and stitched close to the embroidery. I used a ribbon for hanging my ornament, cut around 14″ ribbon and stitched it between the two fabrics. Don’t forget to leave a 1,5 ” opening for turning and stuffing.
I trimmed the excess fabric leaving around 1/4” and clipped all the curves. Then I turned inside out and finger pressed and stuffed the ornament. Finally I hand stitched the opening. Here is the back side of the ornament:
I wish you a very Peaceful and Merry Christmas!

Virtual Christmas Quilt Show

I saw my friend Millie joined a Virtual Christmas Quilt Show. She inspired me to enter a quilt.

Here is a table runner I made for my friend Amanda. I got inspired by the red couch they have and it turn out to be a Christmas colors table runner. I used “Yuletide Floral Table Runner” pattern that my mother-in-law designed. She has a lovely blog you you can visit here.
I made this Christmas Star ornament few years ago as a present to my husband on my MIL Phaff machine. I used gold metallic thread as an accent. I remembered it was breaking a lot but I finished it! It was challenging to stuff the star also, but it was worthed!
Thanks to SewCalGal for for the great idea! To visit the Virtual Christmas Quilt Show click here.
I am still working on my Christmas gifts! How about you?
Have a happy holidays!

I Spy Fabrics, Hawaii and Obvious Store

I received the fabric from the “I spy” swap I signed in. Karen from “Sew Many Ways” organized it and I am very very happy I participated. Thank you Karen for organizing it! If you haven’t visited Karen’s blog you are missing her Tool Time Tuesday posts where she looks at tools and stuff around the house outside of the box!

Each person had to get 3 fabrics and cut 40 – 5” squares and mailed it to Karen with self addressed envelope. I was so exciting when I received my fabric and was going through it like reading a book! 🙂

Karen was so sweet and make for everyone a necklace pin cushion! Thank you Karen! I love mine! You can store a small scissor and pins and on the other end you can skew a bobbin with your thread for sewing and then the nut will hold it there. Here is the tutorial of it if you would like to make your own.

I organized the fabric in few categories: food, sports, novelty, animals and sewing and knitting. The top row fabrics are the ones I sent: with lady bugs, chickens and bats. I can make a few very cute quilts with all the fabrics and I decided to start adding more novelty fabrics to my collection.

I wanted to share the picture of the Hawaiian coffee and chocolates we received from my sister-in-law and family. They are so good, that’s why I am just sharing the picture. 🙂 It was great seeing them and now they are on their way back to Hawaii. Have a nice trip guys!

Talking about family I want to give a shout out to my brother-in-law’s “State the Obvious Store”. If you are looking for a last moment gift to someone who has everything and likes humor you should check it out!

I am working on a couple Christmas gifts so I can’t share pictures, yet!

Happy sewing!
